"The Sound of the Heart is a Korean daily life/comedy webtoon and is one of the key works that elevated Naver Webtoon to its current prominence. Written by Jo Seok, it became his signature work and held the record as Korea's longest-running webtoon during its serialization. Beloved for its consistent humor and unique comedic style, the webtoon garnered numerous accolades, including the Popularity Award at the Korea Cartoon Awards for three consecutive years (2007, 2008, 2009). It also won the Golden Dragon Award in China in 2015 and the Grand Prize at the Korea Cartoon Awards in 2017.
In an interview, Jo Seok revealed that The Sound of the Heart began as a series of casual sketches he posted on his blog. At the time, Naver Webtoon was still in its early stages and lacked widespread recognition. Jo Seok admitted his initial mindset was, ""Let’s just scribble something, make a name for myself, and move on to another cartoon world.""
The sitcom adaptation of The Sound of the Heart was released in two seasons, comprising the original series and a reboot. However, the main series gained greater recognition, thanks in part to its star-studded cast: Lee Kwang-soo as Jo Seok, Jung So-min as Aebong-i, and Kim Dae-myung as Jo Joon.
The sitcom received critical and popular acclaim. At the 2016 KBS Entertainment Awards, The Sound of the Heart won the Hot Issue Entertainment Program Award, while Lee Kwang-soo and Jung So-min were honored with the Best Couple Award for their memorable on-screen chemistry."
