​One of Shinichiro Oda's lines during his confrontation with Gil Bok-sun, "There is no coincidence in victory. Practice for a thousand days is called 'Dan,' and practice for ten thousand days is called 'Ren,'" originates from Miyamoto Musashi's Book of Five Rings. Oda follows up with, "Only after this training," but is fatally shot before completing his sentence. The unspoken part of his line was, "can you expect to achieve victory."​
