​Starting with the lie that she had been admitted to college, Yumi begins to build an entirely different life, one built on lie after lie. Working under Hyun-joo, she feels a sense of deprivation and gradually creates an irreversible web of lies. The story follows Anna, whose fear of her lies being exposed causes her to spiral into strange behavior.​

​"Coupang's original drama One Day is based on the British drama Criminal Justice, which aired on the BBC in 2008. The series has already been remade in the U.S. as The Night Of in 2016 and in India as Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors in 2020. One Day is the third remake of the original. During the planning stage, the working title was That Night, and in the pre-production phase, the title Criminal Justice was used. Traces of the title Criminal Justice can be seen in the video of the script reading event."​
