​Jang-hyuk meets Da-eun, a nurse at a hospital, and they fall in love at first sight. However, after Jang-hyuk starts working at a large company, the couple begins a long-distance relationship. Tensions arise when Jang-hyuk grows close to his new coworker, Bo-young. Da-eun starts to feel hurt and distant as their relationship becomes strained.​

​In the original, the male protagonist's violent behavior drew negative reviews. However, in Sweet and Sour, these violent elements were removed. Instead, the male protagonist's pathetic demeanor during his infidelity was emphasized, which made his negative traits appear less prominent.
